I had a veal parmesan with Spaghetti, served with garlic bread.
It was very good.
This my second meal there and both times on two different items were very good.
Portion sizes are big as well.
Portions are large, but they served a hot turkey sandwich with white meat on top and hid the dark meat underneath. They charged for a refill of ice tea! When I commented on it, the waitress was chippy. They only accept cash also, which is not customer-friendly in this day and age. I won't go back there.
I live in Port Colborne, and my best friend lives in Hamilton, we often meet in Smithville for breakfast or dinner..Last night (Apr 24th) we decided to take our girls and meet for dinner. Although the waitress was polite, you could tell she wasn't very experienced...she kept making excuses for mistakes she was continually making...she brought my salad, there was not cutlery on the table and at least 5 minutes past before she brought it. My friends girls both ordered back bacon and eggs, which was quite good..and an order of pancakes that they wanted to share, my friend also ordered pancakes as did my daughter. This was their main entree as both of them are vegetarian and donot eat meat. Both orders came to the table undercooked.. my daughters were sent back twice..and even after she said the cook made a "fresh batch"..not sure what she meant by that.. they were still undercooked and tasted like paste.. needless to say she did not eat them...we were not made to pay for them... which was good..as i didn't feel i should pay for something my daughter couldn't eat. My friend ate hers only after she smothered them with butter and syrup to hide the taste as by this time it as about 830 pm (we arrived at 7 pm)..and were quite hungry..I had liver/onions with homefries which was pretty good, except the potatoes had no flavor...and she forgot my gravy...at that point i couldn't even be bothered reminding her.. our girls asked for a glass of water and they had to ask again...at least 5 or 6 times...I lost count... she kept saying she was waiting for clean glasses....which i think was bs... I think she might have been waiting for the coffee to grind since she never offered to "refill" our mugs..we had to ask...again twice before she brought some..
This place was reasonably busy...there were maybe 10/11 tables with customers and 3 waitresses...and from what i could see the other's weren't having any problems...
The manager or owner came over and appologized for the "inconvenience" about the undercooked pancakes....blaming it on the grill temperature...that is was set for dinner..not breakfast..however they offer pancakes and breakfast all day so I did not believe this lame excuse. She offered us free dessert..but we declined.
How does a place called "MAPLE LEAF PANCAKE HOUSE"..not know how to make good pancakes...
I'm sure we will try there again sometime, and hopefully the food and service will be better...and hopefully if the same waitress is there she won't be serving us unless she has gained some experience...I know everyone has to start somewhere but when there's a problem you can't handle .. clearly you need to go "higher up"...which is what she did in the end...
We went for breakfast after going to the Smithville Fair. They brought my young son a box of crayons and a coloring book which was very nice. Then the food came. My toast was burnt, my eggs were really runny and one sausage looked questionable as to how cooked it was. My husbands breakfast looked better than mine, so maybe it was an off day. My sons 'grilled cheese' was on white instead of brown and was really 2 pieces of toast with melted, shredded cheese inside. Weird. The cashier stood there drying dishes while we waited to pay. 2 egg specials, 2 Ojs and grilled cheese combo came to 27.52. A little steep for breakfast. Will not go back.
